Improve
Fix the sentence. Keep the paragraph.
Syft’s Writing lens reports what it finds in a draft. Improve acts on the findings that have a safe move behind them — a word, a phrase, a sentence joint — and leaves everything around them exactly as you wrote it.

Reporting Process Review
Due to the fact that Because the current reporting process was designed for a smaller team, it no longer serves the people who depend on it, and the monthly cycle has the ability to can absorb most of a week for the two analysts who run it; in . In order to understand where that time actually goes we instrumented every step for a full quarter and logged the result. The findings were very clear. Most of that week is spent reconciling two systems that disagree about the same figures, and almost none of it is spent on the analysis the report exists to provide.

How it starts
Writing reports it. Improve offers to fix it.
The two are deliberately separate. The Writing lens inspects a draft and lists what it found, with the span and the reason. Improve is the door from a finding to a change — and only for the findings where a mechanical correction is actually safe.

Where the line sits
Writing diagnoses. It reports grammar, spelling, clarity, conciseness, style, consistency and academic convention, and it changes nothing. Seven areas, one calibrated run — how the Writing lens works.
Improve acts. For a finding with a safe correction, it proposes the replacement for that span. For one without, the finding stands as a note and the edit is yours.
That split is why Syft will tell you about a problem it cannot safely fix, instead of quietly rewriting a sentence to make the report look clean.
The scale of a change
A span, never a paragraph.
Every proposal Improve makes is bounded by the span that raised it. The sentence around it, the paragraph around that, and the argument around that are untouched.
A word
An intensifier that adds nothing, removed.
A phrase
Stock filler swapped for the plain form that means the same.
A joint
An over-long sentence split where the meaning already breaks.
Never a paragraph
No proposal spans more than the span it was raised for.
Review, then apply
Nothing changes until you say so.
Improve proposes; you accept or reject each one. The result is written to a new copy and the original is never overwritten, so the two can be compared afterwards. Before any proposal is offered, the whole set is checked: if applying it would alter a number, a quotation or a citation, the proposal is refused rather than shown.
What a proposal preserves
- Numbers
- Figures, units and measurements come through unchanged.
- Quotations
- Quoted text is never edited — those are someone's words.
- Citations
- References and their formatting survive every proposal.
- Your meaning
- A proposal rewords; it does not change what the sentence claims.
- Clarity edits from Syft's writing measurements — word-, phrase- and joint-level only.
